Western Arizona Gun Dog
("WAGD")
An Arizona Retriever Club
WAGD is a non-profit organization established to:
- encourage the preservation of wildlife and our natural terrain through the use of trained retrievers;
- exchange training methods; and
- offer field tests and other training-related events.
WAGD is affiliated with the North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA).
As NAHRA's site indicates, its concept is based solely on simulating real hunting situations, both upland hunting and waterfowling. Tests are designed to mimic a day's hunt in the field. The purpose is to test the dog's natural ability and acquired training and improve upon its current level of training, whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
We adhere to NAHRA's objective of recovering the bird as quickly and efficiently as possible, in order to minimize disruption to the natural terrain and to wildlife.
To accomplish and reward these efforts, we provide field tests and hunt-related events, such as training days, while continually promoting hunter safety and conservation practices.
We are dedicated to the advancement of all retriever breeds, i.e., Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Flat Coat Retrievers, Curly Coat Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Nova Scotia Duck Tollers, and Irish Water Spaniels.
Please contact us if you are interested in sharing information and experiences as we all work to train our retrievers.
